How to choose a matcha gift set
A matcha gift set should not only be tasteful, but above all practical. If the person is only just getting to know matcha, it is best to choose a set that contains all the accessories. This will allow the recipient to begin their first ritual almost immediately.
What should a matcha set contain?
The basis is, of course, the Japanese matcha itself. In addition to it, it is worth paying attention to four accessories:
- matchawan, or ceramic tea bowl,
- bamboo chasen whisk,
- a chashaku teaspoon,
- chasen holder.
Each of these items has its own purpose. The wide bowl allows for easy mixing of the tea, the chasen helps to achieve a smooth consistency and a delicate froth, and the holder enables the bamboo whisk to be stored.
Ceremonial or everyday matcha as a gift?
The choice depends primarily on how the matcha is going to be prepared. Ceremonial matcha will be ideal for someone who wants to drink the infusion in the traditional way and discover its delicate taste and umami. It is also a great choice for a unique, more elegant gift.
Everyday matcha will be a more versatile choice, an ideal gift for a lover of matcha latte or iced matcha.
Matcha set – an exceptional gift
A matcha set is a gift that combines the pleasure of discovering new flavours with the experience of preparing tea. The matchawan, chasen and chashaku are not merely accessories – each of these items plays a specific role and allows you to experience the matcha ritual from the ground up.
- For a beginner, a complete set is above all a comfortable start: all the necessary elements are properly matched and ready to use.
- For someone who drinks matcha regularly, high-quality accessories will allow them to prepare the drink more conveniently and achieve a smooth, delicately frothed texture.
Is a matcha set suitable for beginners?
Definitely. A matcha set will have you discovering not just the flavour from your very first bowl, but also the tranquillity woven into the preparation ritual. The sets available in our range contain everything you need to prepare the brew.
What should a matcha set contain?
The set does not have to consist of a dozen or so items. The most important things are the accessories that you will actually use when preparing tea. In SAYO sets you will find a matchawan, which is a wide tea bowl, a chasen – a bamboo whisk that allows you to combine matcha with water and obtain a delicate froth, and a chashaku, a traditional bamboo spoon that makes measuring the powder easier. A useful addition is also a chasen holder, which helps maintain its shape during storage.
For this, of course, you need the matcha itself. You can choose ceremonial matcha, which is ideal for drinking primarily with water, or the more versatile everyday matcha, which also works brilliantly in a matcha latte.
Is preparing matcha difficult?
No. To start with, it is enough to put about 2–3 g of matcha into the bowl, add about 50 ml of water at a temperature of 70–80°C and whisk vigorously with a chasen in movements resembling the letter M or W. Once you obtain a smooth consistency, you can add more water or prepare your favourite version with milk.
A complete matcha set for beginners makes those first attempts easier. In time, preparing the drink itself will become a pleasant, daily ritual. It is also a great gift idea for someone who wants to try matcha but doesn't know where to start.
On what occasion is it worth giving a matcha gift set?
A matcha gift set can become the beginning of a new ritual – a few quiet minutes during the day dedicated to preparing the vibrant green drink. It is an interesting alternative to classic sweets, coffee, alcohol or yet another cosmetic product.
Birthdays and name days
A matcha gift set is a bullseye for someone who likes tea, is interested in Japan, experiments in the kitchen and is keen to discover new flavours. It's a unique surprise regardless of age, an unconventional gift for a birthday or name day.
Christmas – instead of another predictable gift
A matcha gift set will make a great present for Christmas or St Nicholas' Day. Such a gift will certainly be appreciated by those who value consciously chosen gifts and items that combine aesthetics with functionality.
Housewarming party and new flat
Instead of flowers or a bottle of wine, you can gift a set that will find its place in a new kitchen. A ceramic matchawan, a bamboo chasen and the other accessories are not only practical – the very preparation of matcha can become a pleasant part of a morning or afternoon routine.
Mother's Day, Father's Day
A matcha set could be an interesting idea for Mother's Day or Father's Day, especially if your parents like tea and are keen to try new flavours. It's a gift that can be used straight away, while at the same time being enjoyed for much longer than just on the day it's given.
A gift for no reason? Absolutely
A matcha gift set can be given as a thank-you, to celebrate a new job, a housewarming, an important achievement, or simply for no reason at all. It is a good choice especially when we are looking for a gift that is aesthetic, practical and creates a new experience, rather than just another item that will gather dust.
What is the difference between the Kaoru and Takumi gift sets?
Kaoru and Takumi are complete sets enabling the preparation of matcha. In both you will find everything you need to begin your own ritual: your choice of 30 g of Sayo matcha, a ceramic matchawan, a bamboo chasen, a chasen holder, a chashaku scoop and a SAYO glass.
The difference between Kaoru and Takumi comes down to aesthetics. It is this that determines which set will make a better gift for a particular person.
Kaoru – bright, natural and calm
At the heart of the Kaoru set is a hand-shaped, creamy beige matchawan. The warm, subdued colour scheme blends well with natural materials and bright interiors, whilst creating a striking contrast with the intense green of the matcha.
Kaoru is a good choice for someone who likes minimalism, natural colours and subtle ceramics. It is a set with a light, calm character.
Takumi – dark and more expressive
Takumi stands out with its minimalist black matchawan. The dark ceramics strongly highlight the colour of the prepared matcha, making the whole presentation more contrasting and striking.
This is a good choice for those who prefer dark accessories, modern aesthetics, and stronger contrasts.
Kaoru or Takumi – which set should I choose?
If the recipient likes light, natural items, choose Kaoru. If they more often reach for black and a bolder design, Takumi will be a better choice.
In both cases you receive a complete set with which you can immediately start preparing matcha. The difference therefore comes down primarily to style – and it is precisely thanks to this that the gift can be tailored to the taste of the person you want to give it to.
How to prepare matcha using the set's components?
Preparing matcha can become a pleasant, everyday ritual. Our matcha set contains accessories that help to measure the powder correctly, combine it with water and achieve the characteristic, velvety froth. How to use them step by step?
1. Measure out the matcha using a chashaku
Wsyp do matchawanu około 1,5–2 g matchy. To mniej więcej 2 porcje odmierzone bambusową łyżeczką chashaku. Jeśli masz sitko, możesz wcześniej przesiać proszek – dzięki temu unikniesz grudek i uzyskasz gładszą konsystencję.
4. Podaj tak, jak lubisz
Matchę możesz wypić bezpośrednio z matchawanu lub przelać do szklanki. Jeśli przygotowujesz matcha latte, do gotowej bazy dodaj około 150–200 ml ciepłego lub zimnego mleka albo napoju roślinnego. Możesz również dodać kostki lodu.
5. Zadbaj o chasen po użyciu
Po przygotowaniu napoju przepłucz chasen czystą wodą – bez płynu do naczyń – i umieść go na podstawce naoshi. Pomaga ona zachować odpowiedni kształt bambusowych włókien i ułatwia ich wysychanie.
